I feel like I get the joke, but I'd like it explained in hopes that it's better than what I think it is.

I think it's more about distance but yes the size matters. I played Street Fighter 5 with and arcade stand closer than usual to my 46" television and I couldn't focus on the match. There was so much going on. I narrowed the image with the settings and instantly things became better.
The smaller screen is for hunting and battling. The larger screen for adventure and scenic building. Samething with a scope on a rifle. Narrow the vision so you can focus on the hunt. The wider the vision the more likely you'd descover/see something special like a treasure or secret.
Ummm....what did I just read? Like a poorly written Metal Gear Solid translation with a mega ineffective solution.
I would have liked to see him carrying a box or a crate to make you believe more that he was bringing the dog back.
