When creating a community, it would be nice if you also upload an icon and banner. Please make sure you don't use copyrighted images but instead create your own or look for rights-free material.
I'd like to make formuladank (F1 memes), 3DS/DS and PlayStation (general PS, there's a specific PS5 one). Might bring in people from Reddit.
I tried to make a community but the final create button was unresponsive.
Post some of your favorites. I wanted to bring people from Reddit but they banned me ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Hmm, I've seen that before. Did you upload a banner while creating? I have a feeling that might have an issue, try creating without banner and upload the banner later. (If that works, let me know so I can troubleshoot that)
Aha I know what the problem was. Lowercase only. The error popup informing about this doesn't show up on FF, so I didn't know that's a requirement.
Tried, no difference. This is Icearaven (FF fork just with addons so no real difference) on Android.
I also wanted to try in Bromite but I can't even log in, it gets stuck. nvm my bad, wrong password. Should have an error message there instead of just spinning.
we lack a /c/mealtimevideos in lemmy (at least I couldn't find one on any). That is, links to thought-provoking videos that are ~5-15 minutes long. Bite-sized videos just long enough to watch while you eat your lunch.
When I try to subscribe to communitues of other servers, it shows "Pending". What does that mean?
Is it worth making duplicate communities? I was thinking of making a minecraft community here in lemmy.world, but there already is one on lemmy.ml.
Edit: !oldschoolminecraft has been created
For what it's worth, as someone participating in communities I'm likely to gravitate toward the most established one irrespective of what instance it's on. If there's a problem with an established community (bad moderation policies, bad moderators, lots of posts I don't like, or whatever) then I'll look for alternatives.
But generally, I'm more interested in more communities covering new and niche topics than I am in local copies of communities that are healthy on another instance.
This is why, to me, it makes sense for instances to be topic-focused.
Imagine a Mine.Craft instance with communities of various aspects of the game.
I see what you mean but that would require you to make an account for each topic you want to discuss. If they make it so you can have one account for every instance that might be great, though
You just need an account on one instance, and you can follow "subreddits" (communitites) on other instances.
Granted, it seems that for now there is still some issues accessing other communities.
Ya know, seeing both terms next to each other like that, I realized: if we were to call Lemmy communities "sublemmies", not only would it be great in repetition, and it definitely has a nice smooth ring to it, but we'd also get to refer to things that happen in them as "sublemminal". 🤓🤘🏼
So I'm thinking some health related coms could be useful. I was thinking migraine because that's what I'm familiar with, but I can't see anything health related on any instance. So maybe something broad for starters, like just health?
Would anyone be interested in a community for the inheritance cycle by Christopher paolini?
Just created c/biblicalstudies@lemmy.world as I didn't see one. Working on transferring academic resources over from r/academicbiblical
I've been trying to make one for Rare Genetic Disease Support for a few days but it doesn't seem to work. I've followed all the troubleshooting tips I've found and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right but it just spins endlessly. I've tried searching for it and it doesn't seem like it worked yet.
Hi Ruud, I'm new to your instance and I tried to create a community. However after I filled up all the info and clicked "create", the button just keeps rotating. I tried many times and it was all the same.
Is there any problem which prevents me from creating community? I noticed when I tried to create account from some other instances, if my account wasn't approved, I couldn't log in. The button kept rotating without any notice (similar to my problem here).
Hi Ruud, I did add the profile photo, also the name is in right format, as "self_healers_protocol" if I remembered correctly. I tried to create in other instance. It worked and it seemed that I shouldn't have had the underscore _.
What's your vision for this instance? Any specific leanings? Any communities you don't want?
I don't want anything that's against the rules. For now, the rules are on https://mastodon.world/about I will copy those here (maybe add or re-write some to make them Lemmy-specific).
Oh man!!! The Mlem app doesn’t seem to allow me to create a community or post. I’ll have to jump on safari and see what I can come up with. I’ll also need help once I do create a community with pictures for the banner and such, cuz I’m blind soooo…. Yeah. Maybe that’s why I can’t create stuff with Mlem. Voiceover doesn’t seem to be reading everything.
Ok so update. Creating communities with the official site is kinda broken, at least with a screen reader. I get to the “create” button and it prompts me to match…. Something, but voiceover stops before it can finish. Dang it!!!!
Oh hmm, that's bad. OK so what if I create the community for you, and make you moderator? And we can see how it works from there?
Just created c/acnh , saw a general one on lemmy.ml, but not one specifically for Animal Crossing New Horizons. One for Animal Crossing New Leaf would be good too, but I'm not creating it as I don't really play that one as often, but still putting that thought out there. Some version of the namenerds community on Lemmy, Data Hoarder (which might have an official one, so I'm waiting to see on that one), mental health communities, and specific ones for the different Pokemon games is what I use Reddit for already, so that's all my suggestions.
