Do you also downvote publications when you don't understand them or only when you don't agree / they don't make you laugh / they don't interest you?
What are the reasons for a downvote?

Some instances have downvoting disabled. Beehaw.org for example.
Theyβre trying to encourage positive communication, so they have it turned off. Upvotes only.
And thats the reason why I chose another instance. I want to be able to downvote when people post terrible things. Who knows how long it will take for moderates to remove something, or if they will at all.
this. the downvote should be strictly for comments and posts that donβt help engaging in a discussion. the whole website is built around this concept.
I try to reserve downvotes for things that I think have negative value. If I simply don't like something, I ignore it and move on; just because I don't like it doesn't mean that it lacks value for others. If I don't understand something, and it's important enough for me to act on, I'd rather have a discussion and learn.
I'll downvote posts that don't fit the purpose of a community, or which were clearly posted to start an arguement. I'll downvote comments that are insulting, inflammatory, or otherwise malicious.
Then don't join and/or block anime communities? I don't like sports, but I'm not going out of my way to downvote every sports related post.
I generally reserve my downvotes for three things. People being jerks, people dishing out incorrect information, and reposts.
But Iβm also a beehaw main, and downvoting is disabled for the entire instance. I only downvote on my lesser used accounts for other instances.
