Yeah the community search on Lemmy leaves a lot to be desired. There's no sort function and I'd like to be able to list them in order of activity. At this point I don't know what to do other than scroll through pages and pages of listings. I'll give those searches a try, very helpful.
I'm done with Reddit. This latest debacle prompted me to look into Reddit's history, had no idea before. What an awful company. Also a community not subject to corporate interest is better for everyone. Anyway, I'm not going back there so if the sub gets closed down, no skin off my nose. Yeah do what you will.
Guess Reddit is going to be taken over by alt-right trolls too.
Haha, that worked for Fox News in the USA.
Lots of “you don’t understand, Reddit is a COMPANY!
That's the problem, corporate interest. We'd all be better served by a community open source platform like the Fediverse, politics aside.
Same problem here. Lemmy.ml is the root instance, as mentioned it may be overloaded and not responding to requests. Or it could be some kind of bug, in any case you can still select it and see the community.
Though honestly the more I see about Reddit, the more glad I am to get away from them. I usually don't care much about politics especially when it comes to entertainment and media, but I just watched a video that was rather shocking about the antics that go on there.
Yeah the internet is abuzz with Spez's antics, don't expect that to die down for a while. If they follow through with the deadline it will be even worse.
Still we can add other stuff, maybe drown out the roar a bit. Can always use more communities, I have some good ones now, but I still need a couple I'm lacking.
someone told me that we can see stuff from Beehaw, but Beehaw can’t see stuff from us.
Admins of an instance can block other instances. If you scroll to the bottom of the front page on your instance you see an "Instances" link that shows which are linked and which are blocked. The instance you log into may have a few blocked, but most should be linked.
Evidently Beehaw has decided not to participate with a good number of outside instances. This is a toxic approach and defeats the whole point of the Fediverse. They have the right to operate how they want, but they should be avoided in protest.
Join a Lemmy instance in your country for best internet performance. Here's a list that provides a sort on country; https://the-federation.info/platform/73
I'm getting older and don't pick up new tech the way I used to. It's not terribly complicated though. I really don't like learning new tech anymore, but I got it figured out. Some of the instances have user guides that are quick and helpful, try this one; https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/2212
