I maintain that the best joke in the first Toy Story was Mr. Potato Head thumbing at Woody and going, "laser envy..."
For grins just now I scrolled through ten (10) pages on "all" (i.e. including federated and not just local lemmy.world posts) and sorted by "hot" (the default).
I got one MurderMoe post, one ChainsawFolk post, and one TouhouProject post.
...And about ten linuxmemes posts, I didn't even count how many politics posts, several TenForward posts, like five Lemmy Shitposts entries, quite a few News and World news, and three inscrutable posts in Arabic despite by content language being set to English.
Barely a single pair of anime tiddies among the whole lot. What a drag.
?
I don't see any anime subs by default just browsing the lemmy.world all page when sorted by hot, active, scaled, or new. So what exactly are you doing, and where do I sign up?
There are retro revival consoles that aren't deliberately made to looks like the original incarnations. I think the issue here was that the consoles being sold were deliberate counterfeits of otherwise valuable original retro machines.
For instance, litigious as they are Nintendo has either been unable or unwilling to snuff out things like the RetroN machines which play original Nintendo and SNES cartridges (and Genesis, and some others) but don't claim to be a Nintendo machine or look like one in any way.
That said, I personally would totally buy a fake OG JDM Super Famicom just to have on the shelf, or even a shell just that looks like one.
Water heaters are also stupidly easy to install.
For some reason, in my locale you have to apply for a permit to replace a water heater. I strongly suspect the compliance rate with this asinine scheme is very near to zero. (For anyone reading this, yes, I will totally pay the state for the privilege of installing my own water heater in my own home when I switch mine to hybrid. Scout's honor.)
Cards on the table: I own quite a few converter kits, invariably ones that came in the box with various pens, and I've never in my life ever used a single one of them. Not once.
Any cartridge compatible pen can be manually refilled by just refilling a cartridge. You can do it with a syringe or a pipette or even an eyedropper if you're careful.
Data was a person, to the extent that there was a very famous episode exploring defining him as such. He may have been a machine, but he had clear free will and was capable of thinking for himself, to the extent that the Federation even at their level of technology at the time had no idea how to make another one of him. He was not made specifically to fill a Starfleet uniform, either -- Enrolling in Starfleet academy was his idea and he earned his commission just like everybody else. That's not something a toaster would do, no matter how complicated of a little song it can beep.
The existing crew of the Enterprise certainly knew this having already served with him for some time, several of them having their asses saved by him personally, and one of said asses also having been tapped.
I imagine Sales(tm) would not manage to clear that bar, and Pulaski would have no idea either way (unless maybe she were thoroughly briefed).
