I tried to make a free account before using a vpn, and it worked for a little bit, but was quickly permanently locked with no warning.
Otherwise, I really do like it. I wonder if it would still get locked if I paid with monero.
As the other guy said, its basically firefox but with really strong defaults out of the box. Its a good easy solution for the majority of people who want a browser that gets the job done.
I install it, get a dark mode extension, maybe change the search engine if I dont like it (Default was DuckDuckGo, but I believe that changed) and im ready to start browsing. Deleting all cookies and history every time I close it is also very nice. (Though you can make exceptions if you like)
Content is basically avaliable to everyone regardless of what you end up choosing. At worst, they can block an instance from interacting with another.
Most problems can just be solved by moving to a new instance that meets your needs. Or if you really must, make your own with your own rules.
My concern is an instance shutting down and losing access to all that information. I can always make a new account, but losing all that info from the entire instance could be a big problem. Maybe by then tho people will archive them somehow.
The most extreme case I can think of would be instances blocking everyone but themselves or a few select instances, and forcing everyone within them to follow their rules to access it. But I feel like that would be hard to pull off, people would just jump ship way before it gets to that point.
Same, there just needs to be enough. If nearly no one is left, then it will die out. But if there is enough, then I think it will only get better from here.
I think making things more user friendly overall and communities focusing on quality is gonna play a big role for people staying around or not.
Its just waiting to get feedback. Clicking subscribe doesnt happen instantly, it needs to send a request and then wait for the instance to respond.
My 8bitdo pro 2 controller works out of the box in lutris. Plug and play.
In fact the only controller that wasnt plug and play was my gamecube controller with the official adapter. I typed in like one command iirc and then it was plug and play lol
Wished windows was like that.
