Bit of a mix of upvotes and downvotes on this post.
On the one hand a cynical part of me didn't want to call this good news because capitalism sucks and measuring success this way leaves a sour taste in my mouth. In an ideal world good things shouldn't have to become economically viable in order to be widely adopted.
But the sad reality is that today in the year 2024 we are ruled by capitalism. With that in mind, it is a good thing that renewable energy and energy efficiency are becoming increasingly viable economies. This will result in immediate action, with more development and investment in these technologies which is desperately needed as soon as possible.
Carbon capture technology and electric vehicles being included in this statistic is a bag of worms in of itself (I have no idea what green finance is) but it brings me some relief and happiness to see renewable energy and building energy efficiency becoming increasingly profitable, cheaper, and more accessible.
Thank you for your advice regarding my soil! I hadn't considered how important it is to check the health of the soil first and foremost.
Unfortunately I'm renting the house I'm currently in so I can't say I'm especially keen in investing a lot to improve quality of the soil at the moment. But I'll certainly try the ribbon test since that seems like an important technique to learn and practice for my future gardening endevours. I think you can buy pH/moisture testing devices in places like B&Q too. No harm in learning what the soil is like and how it can be improved.
I do have a big bag of wildflower seeds I picked up recently so I'll probably throw those around if I cannot find a suitable grass to sow in my nasty soil instead.
Again thank you for the detailed and helpful response!
There's a difference between disinformation and "rigging an election".
Ah yes you're right. Perhaps I misinterpreted the original article. Since the focus was on deepfakes my assumption was that by "rigged" they were referring to "influencing an election by spreading disinformation".
It will be very funny and cringe if the Tories blame their election loss on AI and not the... gestures broadly to everything.
There's some small patches of public land in my housing estate which is mostly barren mud apart from a couple of Poppies which grow at a certain times of the year. I am SO tempted to make some seed bombs and throw them down on these patches.
Yeah there can be issues with buying packs of wildflower seeds, such as inappropriate flowers being included. I've received wildflower packs and seed bombs before as presents. I sow them and once they sprout I send pictures to my friend so she can advise if there's any I should pull up.
Thanks for the additional links! I'm not sure if Forest of Flowers are reputable but they are definitely UK-based and are local to me. Being able to explore their grounds first-hand also gave me a lot of confidence in them, but I suppose we will see soon if I was correct to place my trust in them!
