Last time I saw them (I think) was in Newcastle in 2019 during the Stop the Clocks tour? That will have been just before lockdown. And then I've seen them before in London in 2015 after the release of The Mindsweep. This was my third time :)
What are your favourite songs of theirs?
It is for Rochdale, isn't it? Galloway's campaign was centered around support for Gaza, and since he won it would seem that's what Rochdale wants.
Thank you so much for your long and detailed reply!
As well as that I think it would be useful to have an idea of what the soil is like a few inches down. Is it still much the same or do you have topsoil over (for example) builder’s rubble from when the house was built - or something else altogether?
I'm not sure what's going on down there honestly. We haven't tried to dig down very far because it's quite difficult to! I'm not sure I'll be able to convince my fiancee to help me dig up the entire yard but maybe a couple of spots? Our ground isn't very even (it made mowing a whole lot harder) so we can use the leftover topsoil to fill up the ditches in the rest of the garden :')
When and where to mow: in the long term the way that many wildflower meadows are managed is to cut once a year around mid August or September - and to leave an area uncut. The timing of the cut should be late enough to allow the majority of flowers and grasses to seed. The uncut area (often suggested to be 20-25%) will allow invertebrates to overwinter in the stems.
This is so helpful, thank you so much! I really was wondering the best way to do this. I feel quite bad for disturbing insects when I mow, but as I understand there is benefit to land management. Things like pruning bushes and mowing on a higher setting to allow for new growth. There's a part of our garden which has some yellow meadow ant hills so maybe I'll leave that bit alone for insects to continue to shelter in.
