Thanks for the reply. I just looked into VIAL, is it overly complex? I just want to avoid more complications or problems. Is your suggestion for this just to allow me to customize the knobs better? Or do you have other reasons that I should switch? Cause it turns out that I do still have the FN issue
We took the keyboard apart (which took ages, so I want to avoid having to do that again lol, though I guess that's part of the whole custom keyboard deal), and fixed the stabilizer. But then that created clacking from the left side of the backspace, so something was hitting, I managed to fix that mostly (good enough) without taking the keyboard back apart
I also learned that the GMMK Numpad comes with north facing PCB for some reason, but the I found that they sold their own south facing PCB which I was glad to hear. We started taking it apart, and one of the screws stripped sooo bad that it took us the whole night to figure out how to get that damn thing out. We ended up drilling it out (I don't know the details, my partner is an engineer so he figured it out) so thank god that's done, but just another complication that came up
Seems like nothing is ever easy when you buy anything now
edit: Forgot to mention, someone else (last comment by u/trash@lemm.ee) mentioned using vial with QMK - Is this what you did? My concern is that since my numpad is external, it'll make this a lot more complicated and tedious because then I'll have 2 separate devices, and one is supposed to be working wirelessly. I just want simple, but maybe that's not an option in my case. Maybe I'll just deal with the software until it's not meeting expectations anymore
It feels nice and warm, that's for sure :) I hope it stays this way but the content grows to where I can use this as my new source of information
Semi-related... You guys have any tips for seeing new popular posts? I have checked subscribed top week, subscribed top day, even month, and then even all for those 3. I feel like I only see new content every 3-5 days. Or is that just because we're still growing and I'm just used to the overflow of content on reddit? lol
Is this the ultimate move? Kbin magazine = reddit post, right? What community do you plan to post it in?
For example, I have a few game-specific guides. I was going to just post them over at Games.lemmy or whatever games is the most popular, with the game in the title, since game-specific communities haven't seemed to migrate over - specifically, Vindictus, Control, and Outriders (which I've written guides on)
Boost refugee reporting!!
I should probably just uninstall Boost from my phone :( I just opened it and seems to be working, but maybe it hasn't kicked in yet
There are still some subreddits that I used a lot that [seem like they] haven't migrated over yet :/ battlestations, intermittentfasting, lostark, oneplus, purdue, my local town, etc. It just sucks a lot since I'm trying to avoid using reddit entirely :(
Fuck yeah this shit slapped! I remember going to my grandma's in like 2001 and playing that with my cousins. And others like solitaire
I've used a few here that were suggested by others in this thread - some of them gave sources and actually pointed to reddit. I had 2 recent questions I was trying to find information on this past week, and it passed 1/2 questions. But if I have a niche question, especially tech related, forget it lol
It seems to just give a list of all the possible answers for the question. But it doesn't seem to pinpoint (unless I'm mistaken) arguably the most "optimal" method or answer (which users point out or endorse), and I assume wouldn't also explain why or the experience. Because of that, I don't think it'll replace the value of finding information via thread-based platforms (especially if user-controlled)
I really like this. It's so true and I feel like you really hit the spot!
Can you elaborate on what defines a text generation model or give examples? Is it literally just like "write me a story about x"? I can't think of other real examples a TGM could be useful for
It's ironic, though. Google's search engine is pretty horrendous so we literally just use it for searching within reddit (since reddit's in-platform search is also poor, but for other reasons)
I completely agree. It makes sense that AI is not good at determining truth vs fiction. I think it's more important for us as users to just search for information on our own, then determine the "end answer" with our own judgement after reviewing different sources and experiences (taking each individual answer with a grain of salt)
That's why, I personally think AI search engine won't be the best all-rounder for all types of information that's not niche, deep searching which is IMO better found on forum-like platforms where people (enthusiasts) share sources, their experiences, what worked, what didn't work, and why. For AI, maybe just simple bland information, like an excel formula, or how to hot wire a car, is better
