I’m going to half-defend Kevin on this one (despite being an unabashed Australian and generally think Kevin is a cockhead).

I definitely don’t agree that it would “benefit Australia” for Lyon to be hit in the head, but it does give an interesting thought that concussions are allowed to be subbed out yet other serious injuries are not.

I remember hearing this live and I just thought he was making a hypothetical. He wasn't implying it was a smart move. I think Lyon is just upset he can't play anymore of the series, which is also understandable.

It's also a touchy subject for a lot of the players (like Lyon) who played with Phil Hughes.

That's a great point I hadn't thought of. I appreciate that "being hit in the head" is something that players don't want to take lightly.

KP is a dick but he wasn’t the only one to suggest this. Athers said on comms that Ponting had suggested the same thing to him. Whether it was tongue in check by Ponting who knows

Ponting for the record made it clear on commentary he wasn't being serious.
