Revanced Patching of android reddit apps, what's going on ?

Saw some posts on reddit about revanced patching some android reddit 3rd party apps like sync, rif, boost etc to enable users to use their api key or something to enable them to continue using their favorite app.

I have almost zero hopes but would love something where Apollo can be made usable again.

Can anyone ELI5 about what is going on?

Reddit explicitly stated that they are not allowing this use of API keys. They will not be likely to give out API keys to anyone other than large companies at this point, or will ban accounts they catch doing this.

Just stop using Reddit. It is easy.

ReVanced is android only. So no, Apollo won't work

There are some folks doing jailbreak mods that allow you to add your own API key to Apollo.

One concern with this is that Apollo depends on a backend caching system. I saw some references to Christian open-sourcing that code, so you could run that yourself if you had the right skill set.

Another concern is that as iOS marches forward, the app will need updates to use the new OS models. Christian obviously isn’t going to be doing that, so over time the app will become more and more buggy.

Anyway, there are options out there if you know what to look for. They won’t last forever though.
