More like now you get 48 hours to think about how you have to come back and do it all again
The essay concludes, "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy."
Yeah that's gonna be a no from me, dawg.
I'm not complaining, I love my kids and I really don't think that being with them is the worst part of the week. I'm just very, very tired.
I consider myself very lucky because I have a good relationship with my in-laws so usually if I get really tired for the week and need to unwind on the weekend I just dump the kids at their gramps place and both parties will be happy.
Well my boss left for the day so I have my mouse sitting on my jiggler and I’m watching Deep Space Nine on one of my iPads.
Idk how people do it. I've gotten so used to the job I have now where I work 40hrs on the weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and I'm off all week. Sometimes the weeks still feel short
Not truck drivers. That's 70 hours a week. 70 productive with 34 hours to reset and do it all again.
That's 3-4 days for me tyvm.
Downsides: rotating schedule, 10 hour days occasionally require working 5-6 days in a row pending when people take time off. We set it up so there are overlap on a schedule in the evening though, so you also have to work a abnormal shift ~4 times every two months.
I'd still prefer it over 8x5s. Those long weekends are glorious.
8x4s is what I'll be pressing for when I can.
3x12s for life 💪 God damn having a three day weekend every week is such a quality of life upgrade
A question for experts on Marxist theory.:
If work wasn't alienated, would people want to work more than 40 hours or be happy when working 40 hours?
Dimensions of alienated labor
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marx%27s_theory_of_alienation
I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that if the labor isn't alienated, then it becomes less about the hours and more about what's accomplished.
No need to be an expert.
When I'm working on a project that is mine and has my name on it, and I think that it'll help me or someone else in a meaningful way, I'll happily lose sleep over perfecting it.
When I'm just a cog in a giant faceless machine that wants only to maximize profits, I don't really care what the hell happens with the product as long as I get paid.
I've got from 5pm Friday to 9am Monday and I'm gonna use every minute of it to do nothing
