I noticed that some people just have an extreme hatred for furries. I have a friend and I would not call him a generally intolerant person at all, he knows I am homosexual and never cared unlike all other people I have ever told about that(around 6 people), but he has an extreme hatred for anything furry. Like on the level of “All furries should be killed” not the usual shit we can read on the internet. I do not understand it, but there is really no way to get him to any not as extreme standpoint.

This is something that has been giving me a lot of anxiety since I guess I started seeing myself/identifying as furry.

How common is this attitude nowadays? I've heard many stories about bad shit happening in the past, but now that more people are online and are "exposed" to furries, is this attitude still as prevailent? I like to think that it's just some isolated edgelords and assholes, but I don't know if that's naivety on my part.

As someone who mostly partakes in the NSFW side of things as well, I do feel a certain amount of guilt that I'm somehow partially responsible for perpetuating the "All furries are into sex" thing.

As someone who has been a furry for a long time: I think it is better not to worry about it. Offline, hardly anyone knows what furries are, and most outside people seem to think it's mostly about cosplay. Online it is possible to mostly avoid the nutjobs who like to harass people, but I do keep my NSFW furry identity separate for a reason.

As an aside, I don't think you should feel guilty for enjoying the adult side of the fandom. Like... most adults are into sex on some level. And lots of people use the furry community as a place to explore parts of themselves they otherwise keep hidden. IMO that is why so many queer people are attracted to it.
