There’s a few already on lemmy in general. Not sure what you’re not seeing
This is the first on lemmy.world. But unless it’s important to have one on .world, why not just join another that’s already thriving?
Unfortunately for me and OP and a bunch of us, the one that could be described as thriving is the one on Beehaw and they defederated sh.it and world. But now we're in the situation of that "one more competing standard" XKCD comic and that also isn't really beneficial.
Because the instance admins encouraged people to make their own communities.
I don't really see why not otherwise there wouldn't be much point to making communities XD
The main reason would be fracturing people who would be interested in joining across different communities - someone might find a few LGBT+ communities and miss others, same as if someone made another LGBT+ community here on lemmy.world which some people join instead of yours. Activity, content and visibility in these early days of Lemmy are kinda tough to get, and spreading out across instances makes it tougher.
But, of course you're totally free to make your own community too! That's part what makes federation so cool, if you're unhappy with existing communities and/or their moderation you can always make your own, and people from anywhere else can join. Best of luck :)
I think one potential issue is just fragmentation of the user base. There are a lot of communities and many of them are dead or empty.
There's nothing stopping you from creating more communities, but I think eventually people will just flock to the active ones.
Because there is a seperate federated few communities already existed out there for LGBTQ communities. It might not be on the .world systems but a few communities out there use their own systems and community bunch. Nomatter where your home account is, you can access, see and post on the others. Just know it does take some time for access in some communities as some are rather cautious.
Eh, I like World better because of a few bad apples I've had to deal with in other instances like beehaw for example. People seem nicer here.
Very fair enough, It was more of a informative response. Lately a giant jump in userbase increase among various federated systems, so information somewhere is always a good thing :)
