Well I have always tried Linux since 2008. But it had up until recently been hard, you needed an affinity to tinker, to try and identify and fix. And I do not have any IT background. Luckily there is a wealth of knowledge and your fix is one Google search away.
But recently, Linux, I use Mint btw, has really become stable, well rounded platform. I installed steam and most of my games work marvelously, put like 60 hours this last month on cyberpunk.
Also my Windows apps like Cura slicer are now available from the app Store, as an unverified flatpak, but still it is working as a charm.
I think Linux is 90% of the way there, once the large software companies start making their Apps fully available on Linux I do not see a reason why Linux could eventually become a major share of desktop os
