Liner Notes

I’ve been thinking about social media a lot recently, how we all are constantly seeing horrific images, from not just Gaza but all around the world – from Ukraine, Congo, Sudan, the riots in Bangladesh, school shootings in the USA, and closer to home the treatment of First Nations People in incarceration – and that though our gut reaction might be to look away, to hide from it for the sake of our individual mental health, we cannot afford to.

A friend of mine recently said that they were trying to mentally reframe “doomscrolling” as “bearing witness”, and that really resonates with me. At a minimum, it is each of our responsibility to bear witness, and to not forget. Hopefully this little action might ripple outwards in our lives and become waves of positive change.

More info about PARA

Palestine Australia Relief and Action (PARA) helps Palestinian migrants and refugees to live safe, happy, and fulfilling lives in Australia – free from the barriers created by conflict and displacement. Founded and led by Australian Palestinians, their fundamental mission is to centre, strengthen, and amplify Palestinian voices.

Donations support their many activities, including: Facilitating the financial aid, resources, and advice needed for resettlement; Advocating for the needs of Palestinian migrants and refugees; Creating partnerships between service providers, private sector organisations, and the wider community to meaningfully support and involve Palestinians; Supporting the recognition and celebration of the role Palestinians play in enriching communities across Australia, and; Delivering community engagement activities that celebrate and preserve the diversity of Palestinian culture and deepen feelings of inclusion and belonging.
