Have a great day everyone. May you and the animals of the DT who like sunbathing get some sun.

Same 😢. Heater is on all day. It's more expensive to live in a cheap place when you add bills on top.
There are some real characters in my class, but the school doggos are the best bois.
Everyday of school brings me closer to my dream 🙌
Hehe! Doing a big ole career change; going from shitty call centre shite to veterinary nursing. It'll take me around 3 years but it's worth it to never have to sit in front of a PC and take calls for 8 hours haha
The Daily Chair. I've been working on the second chair and am going to put on the cover this evening. In the meantime I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a little so I can finish staining the the wood chairs. Here's a preview of the first with just one coat of stain and varnish, the seat is removeable. I think it looks not too bad.
::: spoiler spoiler :::
I think it looks lovely um but just one little thing, you have a bird there on the right with no head. Why?
the head is on another piece of fabric , you can see it if you look close. It looks too odd?
I could always change it , could take off the cover and resew a bit
I'm making a big matching scatter cushion so it will cover the weirdness a bit
also, I sat on it and it didn't break , i was so worried it wasn't strong enough
Hehe! I attempted not lopping off bird heads on my patchwork, but at a point it becomes unavoidable. Birds just aren’t square.
I only noticed it because I do quilting but if you had a guest pull out the chair to sit down I doubt they'd notice it so I wouldn't change it.
The colours and the wood stain look so beautiful together I'd be really proud.
The english guy on our team was wearing a jacket over his jumper today. I've not seen that ever before
I scored in the 75%-100% \ 4th quartile on my CASPer (the ghost) test when I had covid which means I scored better than 75%-100% of the other test takers. The test must have been held in a cemetery for me to be able to do that well.
A pixel 6 pro phone case fits perfectly over the base plate for things like light switches.
The call nurse button here has a constant bright blue light that's very distracting. The room is almost dark with my phone case over it
Modern solutions for modern problems!
How about the noise? Is the place quiet overnight at least?
The air conditioner can make some noise but it's pretty quiet otherwise.
And that's also a compliment to the nurses working here and how good they are at their jobs. This place is full of kids who have trouble sleeping and I've hardly heard other kids crying
Tonight went well. I think we'll be in for some better nights overall if we keep up the things we're doing here.
But we also have 3am tonight to deal with, so we'll see how that goes
I get you. When I’ve had to take Boyo to emergency I’ve been driven bonkers by lights and machines that go ping! And I wasn’t even the ill person. How anybody ever manages to sleep wth that much crap taped to them baffles me.
From experience: you generally don't. And if you do manage to fall asleep, they wake you up for rounds.
I'll need to keep that in mind for the next stay we do. Unfortunately I don't have any handy in the baby bag
I just can’t get onboard with the whole run/walk thing. Kath and Kel Knight just reside in my brain and overpower any legitimacy the sport may have.
I want Glen robins back on tv. If he could do a revival of Russell Coight show I would be so happy.
You just made me picture Glenn Robbins and merely picturing the man in any of his various guises is enough to make me laugh inwardly.
Caught a pretty cloud tonight. Have to jump on it quickly otherwise we'll be without a rave choon and Out of Time
0.2, "feels like" -1.8 here. No wonder it was such a struggle to get out of bed.
Edit: damn, gone down to -0.2, feels like -2.3
I’m feeling like shit on so many levels.
::: spoiler Homelessness, mental illness, Australia being unequal for vulnerable people There’s an aggressive mentally ill homeless man that’s been coming around my place for ages and now he’s sleeping on a bench right outside my window.
So I get to be too scared to put my bin out and he gets to freeze because it’s not safe for me to approach or help him.
Hate the guy’s guts (he’s aggressively had a go at me before and is virulently homophobic) but I don’t want to watch him freeze or have to deal with him.
I’ve been calling the cops for months, psych triage, the local homeless services, nothing has been working.
The best I have is from today - Launch agreeing to pass a ‘sleep site’ on to their outreach team to check. But they don’t come out at night and I don’t know where this scary stranger goes in the day. He also drinks which might exclude him from dorm style shelters (which don’t apparently exist in Australia the way you think of them?) and may also not have the awareness to accept help.
It’s just one of those deteriorating revolving door situations that never ever gets solved. Australia’s systems are broken. Very surprising for a so called rich country. :::
@melbaboutown @LowExperience2368 Huge hugs.
There were signs up around the apartment block where we live recently warning about a homeless guy who had been trespassing, and to call strata and the police if you see him.
Just from the photo, he looked creepy AF!
Apparently he spent a couple of nights in the basement carpark, and cut power to the building's alarm system one night. (The strata managers only found out after they reviewed the CCTV footage.)
And anyone angry and drunk shouting homophobic slurs is always scary.
So I can definitely relate to how you must be feeling!
You're doing the right thing by trying to help. But I agree it really is shameful how much our pollies have cut the social safety net these past 40-odd years (and both major parties are to blame!). It means people who need help often don't get it.
Take care, stay safe 💜
Can you somehow make the bench unusable? I get that might be considered cruel but you shouldn't be scared in your own home or to be able to step out of it.
If he's a drunk he may not notice
Maybe keep stacking Miss Fluffy's poo poos under there until he's gone
Yeah but are you a part-time drunk or a full-time one because the full-time ones will piss and shit themselves and still carry on mingling with the public.
It goes against my beliefs - I’m really not a fan of anti-homeless architecture. Unfortunately I don’t want to give him a yoga mat for padding either because that encourages him to use that spot…
There’s a disused flat nearby with a porch he could move to but I don’t think he knows it’s vacant. Also it’s still very close to me :/
It’s not your responsibility to make it a hospitable place for him. You’ve already done the right things to get help for him, and now you need to look after your own safety. Make it unwelcoming for him to sleep there, he may move on if you’re lucky.
Yeah, I absolutely don’t want him here. He’s a threat.
It was just awful to watch someone sleeping in that cold. Really stressful even second hand
some people are so paranoid they would rather die than be sociable or accept help
so many hugs, it sucks but we can't fix the world
My plans for a chicken schnitzel burger were destroyed by my lack of a burger bun. I had a few long rolls so made a chicken schnitzel sub instead. It's weird how a different shaped roll makes a completely different meal.
I was so close to a "fuck it all" frozen chips purchase for dinner tonight but I think I'll make that tomorrow's, since tomorrow is when I really will be done with the week and ready to collapse.
Got leftover dahl for tonight, guess I'll make some rice and do a side of stir fried frozen veg.
On the topic of cooking, I bought a tube of Mutti 51% tomato paste mixed with aromatic veg (carrot, celery, onion) the other day. That has been really useful for making quick sauces. Lasts a month in the fridge once opened. Made a delicious napoli sauce in no time yesterday with a tin of tomatoes.... Definitely a repeat purchase. Could be useful for pilafs and curries and stews
This is the one. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/414514/mutti-vegetable-paste-130g
Highly recommend! A third of that sauteed in oil + 2 tinned tomatoes + garlic (poowder) + sugar + salt/stock powder + dried herbs, simmer for 10-20 minutes... hey presto, really easy and cheap pasta sauce right smack in the middle between jar sauce on one end, and making it completely from scratch on the other.
Lately I've been indulging in Bakers Delight's custard teatimes. It's like a pull-apart that consists of soft fluff mini bread scrolls joined together and infused with a delicious creamy custard and a delectable sticky icing and dusted with desiccated coconut topping (like a Boston bun).
Can be enjoyed anytime of the day but somehow tastes better late at night when everyone has gone to bed. Luckily I have a regular dealer who can hook me up with a discounted loaf at a moments notice (provided she's working that day).
Here's what's left of last night's session
@CEOofmyhouse56 @underwatermagpies You inspired me to stop by the local Baker's Delight for lunch.
They didn't have any of those custard buns with coconut flakes (I looked!), but I did get a cheese and tomato bun.
Crook kid means day off. Sadly he is infectious but not actually “crook” so it’s gonna be a loooooooooooong as day solo parenting a hyper toddler
I've had that the last few days. Now it's my partner's turn.... Sings chorus to Free-fallin by Tom Petty like Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire
Yeah when my wife got home I was pretty enthusiastic about handing him over. We had a great day, but it was a LOOONG day!
I've got a 10yo home sick too. The good part is that he's pretty easily entertained but because he's sick he wants Mum's attention every 15 minutes and Mum is trying to study and get this bloody assessment done.
Fuck I would kill for a 10 year old cause you can just stick ‘em in front of a movie and buy yourself like 20 minutes to scratch yourself. Toddler can’t communicate his needs so I can’t tell if the sudden fussiness is feeling worse or actually just bored.
Every age has its advantages and disadvantages! At least you have the potential for a daytime nap. Mine has stolen the TV to play roblox...
I know that. A day off doesn't feel like a rest because you spend all day doing parental labour instead

At the moment I'm going through the plague by Albert Camus and some old Robert Heinlen.
What about yourself?
Road Dogs by Elmore Leonard (sequel to Out of Sight - which is also a George Clooney movie)
Morning all! Only woke up twice last night, which is pretty good for me 🙂 Have a great day everyone!
Ok, dude has ignored the cardboard I ‘accidentally’ left out as an insulation layer and refused to engage with cops on a welfare check. Anything else I leave out for warmth would possibly be interpreted as some kind of encouragement or invitation so isn’t really safe to do. (This guy is an aggressive threatening sleaze and highly unpredictable.)
I found another local outreach number so will try that tomorrow
Is anyone else getting condensation and mould on their windows?
What do you prefer using to clean it, and are boxes of baking soda a good cheap substitute for the moisture absorbing tubs?
I air the house out with the screen doors locked but between the cold and other people I can’t have things open all the time.
::: spoiler Clothing rambles Stocked up on socks and jocks thinking I was getting the previous kind I liked. The lower elastic digs into your bum and there has been fabric saving creep in the cut - those ‘boylegs’ are definitely just midi briefs now, and those have turned into bikini. The socks fit ok but the thin fabric will probably get holes in weeks to months. :::
I've bought the moisture absorber tubs from the cheap shop and when they're done I refill from a bulk bag of damprid. My bedroom window is the worst, shaded by trees and shrubs and this has stopped the mould from growing.
Shrinking underpants at my age and stage in life I do not need🫄🏻
Edit: Have aluminium framed windows that are infested with mould from the previous people who lived here. It's been a battle to keep it under control. So far I've used Ajax Professional (stinks but good product), White King Mould and Soap Scum Remover (Stinks slightly less but good product) and they've been the best. But Elder minipeeler hates the smell of bleach and chlorine, gives him headaches. Hates swimming pools for the same reason, any amount sets him off. So recently when I went to the farmers market I found a product which has clove oil and eucalyptus and doesn't upset elder. It wasn't cheap but I'm desperate enough to try it, and it works ok in my bathroom so I'm going to try the window frames on the weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
They’re cutting them skimpier to use less fabric. We’re literally getting the arse end of enshittification
@Seagoon_ @melbaboutown They also start fraying in fewer washes than they used to. And the elastic on them goes sooner too.
As for window cleaning, my tip is, if you want a streak-free finish, try using scrunched up newspaper instead of a cloth.
According to my Spotless book it says
MOULD REMOVER FOR HARD SURFACES: Mix 1/4 of a teaspoon of oil of cloves in a 1 litre spray pack of water. Spray and leave for 24 hours before respraying. Wipe with a clean cloth.
As for absorbing moisture I'd buy a large tub of chalk, tie them together and hang them on the inside of my blinds/curtains. I do this in my bathroom basin cupboard because it gets damp in there.
Heh. Would you believe I actually have oil of cloves. A bit worried about asthma triggers tho
What do you think about cleaning with vinegar and then a spray of Conchrobium?
I've only ever used straight vinegar for mould and it's worked. I've never used Conchrobium so I don't know if it'll work.
I'm trying to remember a recipe for a spray. I think it's half water half vinegar and 10 drops of clove oil in a spray bottle.
I get it in a couple of rooms. Indoor humidity will come from showers, cooking, breathing. Because window glass is cold the moisture can condense there. I put one of those moisture absorbent containers in the affected windows. Open the blinds every morning to ensure air circulation at the glass. This combined effort fixes the problem. Baking soda is not a good moister absorber, so won’t work like the proper absorbents.
I'm a little bit surprised, but we don't really have humidity problems here. Even during los tiempos difíciles, when I spent 20 or so hours in my room with no windows open and the door closed for 99% of the day. I wonder if it all escapes through the same way as the heat.
My bathroom suffers from mould issues sometimes, but it's just about entirely my fault. The fan and light are on the same circuit, and there's also a skylight. So if there's enough light from the skylight, I often don't turn it on. It also sucks out all the heat and warmth, and ain't no-one want to get out of a shower into a 12° room
Every morning I wipe down the windows with paper toweling to mop up the condensation.
For the windows covered by fly screen, I open them slightly and close off the room until the water has evaporated from that window.
So far, this has kept any mould issues at bay by being diligent and clearing the moisture away before mould can take hold.
Unfortunately in my area I can’t have the windows open or even open the blinds. I might give a regular wipe down though
No, I might open the back one for a short while due to the fence but my area is really rough.
