It's the last working day of the week for most of us. What's happening this weekend?
It's the last working day of the week for most of us. What's happening this weekend?
I so glad our eldest swapped swimming (9am, other side of town) for tennis (11am, ten minute walk away).
It's my half day at work, half day of hobby gamedev, so I'm excited to get stuck into that. Been learning how to art, which is no simple feat for a programming nerd like myself, but games need both things so here we are!
Tomorrow my other half is off to some family thing, so I get the house to myself. That usually means sitting in blissful silence with no TV or anything, eating macaroni cheese. But occasionally it means a one-woman early 2000s rock dance party so we'll just have to see which way tomorrow goes 😆
oh god i’m so into macaroni cheese at the minute. it’s my go to comfort food. usually with a garlic flatbread if i’m feeling fat.
My company guarantees one, three-day weekend a month and today is our day off! Gonna play some Zelda, maybe putter around on a personal project.
It's honestly a great system for morale. Highly recommend. Most studies show that productivity goes up when you move to a four-day work week, and this is a great way to dip a toe in that water.
Oh man something like that would definitely have kept me going at my last job, you'd always have something to look forward to. Enjoy!
I am still in a ridiculous amount of pain, but it doesn't seem like such a big deal now, as I plan to spend the next few days laying in the shade watching the Ashes.
Going out tonight to have a nice steak at a new Steakhouse in town. Then stroll down the hill to see some live music be played in the venue I got married in.
No child to look after tonight so a nice full night sleep 🤨
Tomorrow hosting two friends and going to make a Beef Wellington for the first time, excited to do that.
Goddamn I am so jealous of people who live in places where there are things like restaurants and music and friends. You're very lucky, never forget it!
Haha, well it's cultivated over years. I don't think I could live anywhere that didn't have some form of decent restaurant options and people I could occasionally subject to my imitation of good cooking. As for music, I'm not like the headbanging rock live music type, but a casual evening listening to Hans Zimmer? That's a music event for me.
You must have chosen to live out in the sticks if that isn't a little bit of an option?
Yeah, tried bringing my other half into civilization but he got homesick for his middle-of-nowhere upbringing so here we are with bugger all going on. I recently travelled 3 and a half hours each way by bus to go to an hour long comedy show with friends in our nearest city.
Note to self: cheer up it's Friday, save this moan for the next Thursday thread, at least you're near the sea
Haha. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess.
I'll steer clear of the nearby coast at this time of year. It's too crowded, too hot, and there's sand everywhere. Mostly I just hate the people.
Wait a minute. You're right! It's Fridddaaaay! Woooooooooo
best of luck with the Beef Welly! Let us know how it goes, I'm chomping at the bit to try it but not quite confident enough yet.
You are far braver than I am, I am a pretty decent cook but I have never attempted a beef wellington. Given the weather we are having I would be more likely to portion the beef into steaks and cook them on the BBQ.
Best of luck!
Haha, the weather I hadn't factored in until you just said it. I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm-in-danger.gif
Pay day, and 90% is gone before 11am.
Looking forward to Formula one this weekend, It's going to be strange but hopefully just as good in the community on Lemmy rather than the other place
A totally stacked day at work, then a haircut, now catching up on Black Mirror before starting on the new season.
Ah but think of all the excuses to slap them with your palm and say 'yep, that's not going anywhere' and feel smug
The usual climbing outdoors but I'm excited to go out for a meal in town with my sister and her partner. Expensive but it always makes me feel good when people come to something I've planned.
Since it’s going to be a few degrees cooler I might be able to leave the house without instant regret. Maybe a picnic is on the cards.
We live in Edinburgh, where the schools finish at lunchtime, so I have about 3.5 hours of freedom.
And this weekend we're going through to the Play Expo retro games thingy in Glasgow tomorrow! Last one was in 2019, so looking forward to that.
Ah that sounds fun! We went to the one in Manchester a couple times, and there's a smaller more local one called NERG which is usually a good time. I hope your venue is adequately air conditioned, that's all I'll say!
If you spot a Marble Madness machine give it whirl for me.
Can't beat a bit of Marble Madness. I believe it's in Braehead Arena which is used for Ice Hockey, so hopefully it has a beast of an AC system!
Gotta drop the car off for a service (during rush hour) and pick it up later this afternoon (during rush hour).
#FML
Recuperating from 2 days of masquerading as an extrovert with work colleagues in London by sitting alone in my home office and talking to noone. Might talk to my wife occasionally. Maybe the cats too, but they don't talk back.
I'm hoping to finally get on top of my housework and chores this weekend - the weather has been insufferable all week and I haven't had the motivation to do anything in the house and things are piling up.
Might try to go swimming. The fiver fest is in town too, so I might do a bunch of random drinking and shopping.
I really need to finally nail down my Fringe plans, too. Can't decide where to stay or how to get there. If not for the 5 year old we'd train and hostel it.
I'm going to the north from London on the train, which confirms what I already know about how ridiculously expensive trains are. It's barely cheaper for two of us to get the train (with a Railcard) than it is to hire a car for the weekend, and no doubt there will be delays.
Looking forward to the slightly cooler weather forecast up there this weekend though!
