Der Chef des australischen Energiemarktbetreibers AEMO, Daniel Westerman, hat die Atomkraft als Möglichkeit, Australiens alternde Kohlekraftwerke zu ersetzen, mit der Begründung abgelehnt, sie sei zu langsam und zu teuer. Zudem seien Grundlaststromquellen in einem von Wind- und Solarenergie dominierten Netz ohnehin nicht konkurrenzfähig.
