There are some versions sold online for 90 dollars it seems. I'm totally sending this to my wife.
I bought an identical one on aliexpress for a few bucks and I wonder if it was a reproduction or if this is exactly the same thing portrayed as a 16th century ring. I think the later is most likely.
Not OP but I saw this:

there seems to be a few of them.
This is one of those awesome things that you’ll find in every size but the one you need. So you buy a size up and hope to find a use for it someday. But alas, you never do, and there it sits indefinitely, occasionally catching your interest and making you go “aww that was neat.. shame it didn’t fit”, until you die and it ends up at a thrift shop.
nah babe, your knuckles keep getting bigger for like you’re entire life. rings are totally one of those things you can grow into!
I’ve worn an 8 band puzzle ring for probably 40 years now (mine is silver, not gold) and it does indeed make a good fidget toy. Back in high school I taught myself to put it together behind my back, by feel only, when in school.
A friend of mine in college refused to let me show her how to put it together. It took her almost a full semester during a really boring class to figure it out herself.
Not a ring, but if you have access to a 3d printer, I have one of these and I really like it
Some people report they prefer to take it off before unfolding it. But they are unverified reports so take this info with a grain of salt.
I prefer mine that comes apart into a puzzle that you get to put back together before you can wear it again...
But like actually I love it so much.
