Faith of the Heart will never not be grating for me. Too American, too 90s wannabe 70s soft-rock dreary & derivative, despite being a cover by a British singer of something originally written for and recorded by Rod Stewart.
This is exactly the kind of song that made me dread hearing soft rock music at dentist’s offices or physiotherapy.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Faith of the Heart. The message is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the refrences will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Enterprises positive outlook, which is deftly woven into the songs characterisation- the shows philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realise that they're not just faith in a heart - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Faith of the Heart truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the truth in Phlox' existential catchphrase "This is a nipple," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Rod Stewarts genius lyrics and melody unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
