We were so close to seeing another gaming handheld ship with Linux out of the box that isn't the Steam Deck, but it seems AYANEO with the AYANEO NEXT LITE weren't convinced enough and so they've changed their minds.
According to their statement they'll still be offering HoloISO as an option for users. It's possible they were just using it to leverage msft for a cheaper license.
As long as the platform supports SteamOS (or a fork of it), I don't care what it ships with.
Ask the obvious, are there any real competitors in the market. Contract developer driven products are not equivalent to a company with full time developers. This is the factor that actually matters. Stuff like this has no value because the venture capital is not buying into the community, it is only targeting return on investment to exploit the end consumer.
That's dumb, it should be the other way around. By default it should come with Linux, and you have the option of picking the Windows edition instead and pay that Microsoft tax.
Lol i was thinking of buying one as my first handheld gaming device but seems like thehy dont want a happy customer.
I would say is not a bad choice for Microsoft, they certainly don't have many options right now. Also, they didn't have the need to use much money, since they always had OEM licenses to throw at laptop/pc companies.
They get to push Xbox easily on mobile devices while having Steam as an option. They can't sell Xbox with a Linux device (they won't).
