Why do we have such a toxic culture of making work "fun"?? What the hell is wrong with people? Why can't we just do work, go home and have your own kind of fun with other people you enjoy being around???
Because your corporate overlords believe that if you can build a connection to your workplace and colleagues, they can guilt you into producing more value for less pay out of some misguided sense of loyalty. A job is a transaction. They don't give a shit about you, you don't need to give a shit about them.
believe that if you can build a connection to your workplace and colleagues, they can guilt you into producing more value for less pay out of some misguided sense of loyalty
But I'm afraid they've been wildly misinformed by the HR overlords or whomever on 'how to get employees to build a connection to the workplace and colleagues' cringe
I fucking hate it. I dont get it. Its a JOB. It means nothing to me. Just middle management and HR trying to justify their existance. Just cause they dont have personal lives.
An idea was floated by HR that each team should make a video (to put on our intranet) explaining what we do and how we fit into the organisation.
The kicker - it should have been a music video!!! Everyone loves to sing on camera!!
Thankfully upper management put an end to it quickly, but it went way further than it should have.
it should have been a music video!!! Everyone loves to sing on camera!!
have these people not heard of the Geneva Convention?
We're talking about HR here, so definitely not.
I should note that there were a few teams that very actually disappointed that this didn't eventuate.
Those team members have been reported to ASIO as potential spies
Report?! No no no. Execute them now. Clearly they are shapeshifting aliens! I'd say robots but I think even robots would shy away from an artsy idea like that.
In the context of this particular team it makes sense. They're 'those' kind of people.
Super keen and excited for anything and everything.
Fuckers
Oh man that is the worse. Also cue music The Human Beinz - Nobody but me song from The Office where they all film a music video and mime together.
I'm just not sold on the effectiveness....the best cultures I've worked in I feel like it all comes quite organically because you like the people they get you and you get along well together. No amount of forcing people to party in a room will achieve that.
I shall have to review footage first myself as I don't remember a thing from it (or if I had indeed watched it).
It's becoming a big thing in government (my area of work at least). Heavily encouraged 'fun activities' for all!!!
I've been slightly shunned as I refuse to participate but fuck'em.
The worst is when they do this after cutting headcount and stuff thinking this will help but it's just really cringe.
I like to make work fun for myself because I have to spend so much time on it. But forcing it to be fun for the whole team is just small minded groupthink. Especially when it comes from the minds of soulless and cynical HR departments
Same. Like I actually enjoy what I do and this whole let's make work fun vibe is just completely contrived and unnecessary.
I like work to be fun but not if it's forced. Then it's just more work of a different and more annoying kind.
While I sometimes can motivate myself at work to make things fun or funny for some reason there’s always a natural and ugly resistance when it’s suggested by people higher up in the chain.
After last night's successful posting, I have moved the bot onto learning the days of the week. Either I have been successful, or all future posts will be labeled as Wednesday.
3 months to tell someone is plain rude...you've dodged a bullet. Onwards and upwards to better things!
I mean if they're that crap at their job you probably don't want to work there anyway.
And even if you are successful after 3 months it's like another 2 months for paperwork and onboarding 💀
I have absolutely no idea 🤣 Whatever it was I think the packet manager has fixed it, as it is designed to run programs continuously. Or possibly the successful post was an amazing fluke and no post in the future will ever work again. But I'm hoping not.
Time for bed. Anxious about the bot, but it has worked once, I must have faith. I have instructed it to make a post at midnight given all the test posts worked last night. I think it will take a few more successful posts before I can really trust it is working.
Up just before 6 am to hit the gym...fuck yeah!!!!
Got some energy, ready to fucking lift.
Do my stretches, light warm ups, first rep of the first exercise and something tweaked in my back.
Off to the physio I go!!!
Yay!!
I don't find cycling to be very good exercise for me. I lived inner city and rode a bike everywhere for years. I don't have access to enough consistent bike path before I have to stop for crossroads (Djerring Trail). I like running because it gets my heart rate up and I can do it at the local footy oval. I could take my bike to Malvern velodrome but it makes exercise a three hour job with getting there and back.
Oh bugger. I can't run cause everything below the equator is sore for days on after. I'm guessing the answer is yes, but have you looked into knee support braces? One of the dudes at my gym swears by one (I'll find out the brand) cause he run again without discomfort.
Thanks but don't stress the brand. I feel braces are a bit like chiro, it really does work for some people but the science is weak.
Now that's motivation! By the way, I always thought of your username as being like a nasty lift.. it only just occurred to me that it might be mean as in median/average 🤦🏼♀️
The username was suggested by Reddit when I signed up and kind of liked it. It has no meaning whatsoever 😁
Hey Midnight Bot you showed up tonight. Great to see you. Thanks @RustyRaven@aussie.zone you've made my day.
It's my daughter's first birthday today! Mum's at work so it's just me and her celebrating until she gets home. Is it stupid to take a baby to NGV during school holidays?
Do it. The NGV is great. You can always take a rest break lying on the floor looking at the stained glass ceiling if it's too busy.
::: spoiler cw: mention of possible dog passing away I'm scared that I won't even have six months with my dog... It never gets easier. :::
they are here for a good time. Not a long time. But that never makes it any easier. I had a dog get suddenly diagnosed with cancer a couple of years back. They gave us some meds to buy us some time before we said goodbye. It brought us a month. In some respects it was fucking horrific. Absolutely bloody horrific. And in some respects, it was a gift from god himself and I'll be forever thankful for it.
So I'm on a bus and I'm reflecting on the fact that while seatbelts are compulsory in cars, on a bus you've really only got your prayers 🙏.
On a bus, your prayers are for the cars that get in the way. f=M.A sorta translates to big bus fucks little cars.
Unless a truck hits the bus and T bones it like in Mornington Peninsula today. The Truck won that round.
If it makes you feel better, busses have more mass so are inherently safer. The no seatbelts thing is so you don't have to fiddle with it in a panic and delay evacuating the bus.
Uncanny that a truck T boned a Bus today in Mornington Peninsula. One kid on the bus had lots of teeth knocked out.
One of my friends was just talking about Heartstopper and while I haven't watched it because I just don't really care for a show with a cast of teens, it got me thinking about how lucky young LGBT people are these days in terms of content they can watch and see themselves in. When myself and my generation were coming out and looking for media that represented us it was all very full on, and stuffed to the brim with sexual content, a lot of it truly dubious. My friends and I at the time just didn't understand how incredibly damaging watching that stuff could be for us as teens. I don't know, just got me deep into thinking about how not just myself but friends maybe wouldn't have engaging in some risking shit had we had shows and movies that showed healthy age appropriate stuff.
Related off note, but I thought about the OG UK Queer as Folk, and how I thought 15 year old Nathan banging grown arse Stuart wasn't that bad. Adult me is mortified, but I think about how those old shows were all my friends and I had so of course we thought yeah that's how it is, that's what we should want and how we should behave.
I dont usually get deep on here, but I just can't stop thinking about it now.
I've just realized why I'm over this job. This was supposed to be exciting. Managing shit. Helping people. Fixing things. But I'm so busy filling in god damn spreadsheets and checking off things on a list to do anything about actually fixing or improving things.. Its basically just become an admin assistant. What the hell am I even doing here?! Booked myself in for an Azure fundamentals course next week. I'm pretty adept at Azure already, but I tried to study for the bigger certificate and got a bit overwhelmed so im gonna try get the basic certification and then build momentum from there.
Good luck mate. I'm sure you'll land something more interesting. There's a fair bit out there for the time being.
Do you think its a requirement that to work for Linkt you have to get a lobotomy? Or do they exclusively hire people with single digit IQ? I traveled early June, noticed my tag didn't beep so I got home, logged a replacement tag, they go "No worries, we wont charge you for any tolls for the proceeding couple of days and until your new tag is confirmed received". Want to guess what I just received in the mail? If you guessed a toll invoice I have bad news for you: You are clearly too smart to work for Linkt. I try to be patient with call center staff, its not their fault they work for soul sucking corporations. But man we are 35 minutes in and they are still trying to tell me it is a valid invoice.
Heheh, they're smashing their heads against their desk because they prolly agree with you it's stupid, but they can't say that and have to keep repeating that's it's valid.
Escalate politely, and if speaking to a senior/TL doesnt work, there should be an ombudsman you can report to (though im not sure who in this case)
Fuck tollways.
Someone's posted pics of the fake seizure guy: https://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/comments/14qdgum/psa_fake_seizure_guy_tried_it_on_just_now/
I have lived here my whole life and I have no idea who the heck this dude is. He's been doing it so long!? What the actual fuck.
I lived in Melbourne for about a decade solid, and have split time between Melbourne and Sydney for over a decade since then, and am also lucky enough not to have encountered him. If he pulls this sexual assault stunt somewhat regularly, why hasn’t he been put away?
Difficult to identify and catch, maybe?
I doubt that he does it when there's police or PSOs around, and he's probably not hanging about afterwards.
It seems like its true, but I don't think alleging crimes on reddit then putting someone through a trial by fire is legal. It's for sure a PSA but it still a bit creepy. For all anyone knows he's stopped doing it. I'm a survivor too and this triggers me to even think about but I don't know. On reddit I'd be downvoted to hell and I seem to have found some here too, this isn't playing devil's advocate I'm specifically talking about the legality. Those using reddit to threaten violence and suggest he suffer violence are not a lot better than him imo.
I don't think the poster is encouraging vigilantism. It's more warning people to be on their guard and not fall for this guy's ploy.
Yeah, but they published a photo of someone without their consent and made allegations against them. Regardless of OP's intent, I don't think a magistrate would see if that way. Sexual assault is a terrible crime and luring people into is completely fucked, I just think doxxing is also fucked and it's also a crime. As we are taught from a young age, two wrongs don't make a right.
Either way, it's nice to be able to discuss things like adults over here without resorting to brigading or threats of violence.
IMO the people who threaten violence are much worse than him. I would consider posts inciting/advocating violence or harrassment to be a clear breach of the community guidelines here.
The guy's weird and has a weird fettish, but tricking people to have them sit on you is something that requires counselling, I don't know that it would even fit the definition of an assault. Maybe there needs to be some sort of social intervention order that can be used for people who don't target a single victim, that can tell someone their actions are unacceptable and if they can't follow it to make it possible to put some sorts of interventions in place.
From what I've read, after he gets someone to sit on him and hold his arms down, he starts kind of grinding his crotch against them. Definitely seems like it would qualify as molestation.
I just hope it doesn't stop people from helping when someone else actually does have an epileptic fit. I've seen it happen a couple of times.
That is pretty gross.
In regards to actually helping people having a real fit, the appropriate actions for that would be the best way to deal with this guy too - move any dangerous objects away, call 000, and the only reason you would touch them is if they are unconscious after the siezure, in which case you would roll them on their side.
Hard day. Baby hasn’t been well. I keep getting irrationally angry at my partner too because I’m freaked out and projecting. I have managed to not actually say anything and just keep my emotions to myself but I’m exhausted from managing myself too. Baby will be okay but it’s hard when he’s screaming in pain 😭
Reports of my demise have me SLIGHTLY exaggerated. I'm feeling heaps better, but my god that was the worst I've ever felt whilst not actually being sick.
