[Question] I am trying to install FoxIt Phantom PDF, but cannot get it to install. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Got it installed and activated, but it is not showing the full screen. Side note, the touchscreen isn't working, is that a thing in Fedora? I didn't think about that before switching from Windows.

EDIT 2: It looks like it just doesn't like me using the "maximize" button so all I had to do was drag the edges to make it larger. Not a true fix but it remembers how I wanted it when I reopen it so I'm not worried about it.

New to Fedora (and Linux in general).

Trying to install FoxIt Phantom PDF (a PDF editor). I have to use version 10.1.9 due to the license that I have (older version). I have the link directly from the company and have successfully downloaded the exe file. However, I cannot get it to install. The installer works for awhile but then the progress bar starts skipping around the screen. If I stop the install, it says there is a log file, but there is not. No files seem to be generated anywhere, aside from the exe file I downloaded. I have tried it using Bottles as well as the command line.

Here is my computer info:

Can anyone help? I need this specific program because it has form field recognition, and I have not found that when looking for other options. Thanks!

[Question] I need a comand to enable wifi after reboot each time. How i fix it? - (Macbook pro 13 2011) [Fedora 40]

I've installed fedora 40 on my jurassic Macbook 13 2011 and so far i'm in love with it. The only issue was the wifi. I've checked different posts and articles and in the end i've find this [https://darryldias.me/2020/linux-wifi-drivers-for-2012-macbook-pro-offline-method/] which worked... up to a point. When i turn off or restart the machine i have to use the comand "sudo modprobe -v b43" to enable the wifi each time.

Any idea?

Cannot edit Syncthing config file if my life depended on it.

Cannot edit Syncthing config file if my life depended on it.

I'm trying to set up Syncthing on Fedora Server OS (40). I followed the docs, the systemd service is up and running. Ports are open in the firewall, that's all good.

I've found in many, many, many Google searches that in order to access the WebUI via a local network machine (which is the only way I can) you need to update the config in order to allow this - changing the web GUI port from 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0. I found a config file and made that change. I have done every combination of stopping the service, restarting the service, updating the config, and restarting the daemon. I have even restarted the entire server. Every single time the server starts, the god damned logs say the web GUI is available via 127.0.0.1:8384. I cannot get it to open to the local network. I cannot find any other config files. I don't know how else to do this. If anyone has any advice, I would be very much obliged.

alias sys="rpm-ostree"

I dislike typing rpm-ostree,it's just annoying to me. What's the downside?

I want to reset my server soon and I'm toying with the idea of using a different operating system. I am currently using Ubuntu Server LTS. However, I have been toying with the idea of using Fedora Server (I use Fedora on my laptop and made good experiences with it) or even Fedora CoreOS. I also recently installed NixOS on my desktop computer and find the declarativeness pretty cool (but I'm still a complete beginner) and could imagine that it would fit well into a server setup.

I have quite a few services running on my server, such as Nextcloud, Conduit (Matrix), Jellyfin, etc. and all in containers. I would also rather not install programs without containers, because 1. compose is super easy to maintain and set up, 2. it remains very clear with containers (and compose) and 3. I believe that containers are more secure. But since I also want to make the services inside the containers available, I currently have Nginx installed as a reverse proxy (not in the container, but on the system) and always create certificates with certbot so that I can use HTTPS encryption.

In the paragraph above I actually described exactly the use-case of Fedora CoreOS, but I have no experience with the system and how it works. That's why I'm still a bit hesitant at considering the OS at the moment. I can imagine that NixOS with its declarative nature seems well suited, since, as I have heard, you can configure containers as well as Nginx and with Nginx also https certificates declaratively. But I could also use a base system like before (Fedora Server or Ubuntu Server) and simply install podman, nginx and certbot and manage everything that way.

Have you had any experience with Fedora Server, Fedora CoreOS, NixOS or a completely different operating system for servers and what are/were your impressions with this setup? Or do you just want to share your knowledge here? I would be delighted.

Random resume (after suspend) issue on ThinkPad T14s AMD Gen3 (Radeon 680M, Ryzen 7)

Hi, since 2 or 3 weeks, may be more, I don't remember, my laptop, a Thinpad T14s AMD gen3, powered by Fedora 39 Gnome Wayland, randomly, the suspension cannot be restored, I have to do a hard reboot/reset.

This is the last line in journald:

I researched on ask fedora, no success.

I also searched on RedHat Bugzilla, I only found this slightly related to my problem "Radeon on Wayland - Black screen/crash on suspend/resume" but contrary to the description in this bug report, my problem only happens randomly. I'm not able to reproduce it with any certainty.

Am I the only one with this problem?

Do you have an idea of a direction in which I could explore to correct this problem?

Best regards, Stéphane

Questions about stability and Nvidia performance on vanilla Fedora (Gnome) vs KDE

Questions about stability and Nvidia performance on vanilla Fedora (Gnome) vs KDE

Hi! I have some newb-ish questions, and I was hoping some Fedora veterans could help me out.

I have been using the KDE spin of Fedora since 36, and I love it. I distro-hopped for years, but I have not had any interest since landing on Fedora. I have been using the KDE spin because I love KDE. I love how lightweight yet feature-rich and customizable it is. It can really be anything I need it to be, and it's amazing.

With that said, there are two recent happenings that have made me question whether I should switch to the original GNOME version:

  1. I've been having some minor issues lately with F39, like audio not working after I reboot, so I had to eeventuakly remove it altogether and use pipewire, which has been working better. Nothing big, but minor issues like that. I've heard that the GNOME version performs better and is more stable/has less bugs, but idk if there's any truth to it?

  2. I have an Nvidia GPU. Wayland support is pretty bad for me, and I've been relying on X11 all this time. Recently, it was confirmed that Fedora will be dropping X11 support altogether in F40. I'm wondering if anyone out there has used both KDE and Gnome with an Nvidia GPU that can tell me if there's any difference in Wayland performance?

I kinda don't want to switch to GNOME, because I love KDE, but if it will make my experience better, then I think it's probably worth a shot.
