@kbin.socialYeah between this, abortion rights, and the affirmative action thing... it's gonna be a rough next few years, but in the long term the Republicans are toast. I think what we're experiencing now are their last spasms for power because they know they're on the way out.
Just look up the amount of registered democrats vs. registered republicans in this country. IIRC there's like half again as many democrats.
It's almost like the only reason republicans ever win elections right now is due to is voter suppression.
I journal and take notes regularly by hand and have written novel-length manuscripts in the last couple of years by hand. I prefer using fountain pens or else my hand cramps up (and using anything else for that amount of writing can get a bit wasteful). I don't know if it's better for my memory, but I prefer it for other reasons.
My process is to write a first draft by hand to minimize digital distractions. I take my notebook and pen somewhere without internet, and leave my laptop and phone behind. Then, I type it up, and this is a sort of "natural" 2nd draft process, as I obviously make smaller or larger edits as I'm re-reading my own work.
My mom still has notebooks from when she was in high school. Digital amnesia means I don't have any of my high school and college homework anymore. I developed this system because realized I was putting a lot of effort into managing digital backups of all of my drafts and shit when simple folders and stacks of paper would do fine. But really, I mostly do it because I have ADHD, and using computers to write longform drafts is difficult because they are highly distracting devices. Typewriters and notebooks that only do one thing make things more straightforward for me. So, I get why most people don't approach things this way in 2023.
I hear you. The best I can do is tell myself that hopefully the Coast Guard personnel and other mariners got some practice/training which will be useful in emergencies in the future. And it's still right to try and save someone, even if they put themselves in the dangerous situation.
Wow, I love slsk and have been using it since literally about 2004 (it has absolutely defined my taste in music), but I didn't know there were any options for clients except for the main one. This is great!
If you're reading this and you've never checked out slsk, consider this your invitation. I have spent hours trying to "stump" it by searching for increasingly-obscure music. Someone always has it on slsk.
EDIT: HOLY JESUS HALLELUJAH IT HAS DARK MODE
What's a good seedbox provider these days? I had one over ten years ago, but I don't even remember what that company was called.
When 3rd party apps are blocked on July 1st, Reddit is no longer going to support accessibility features that blind mods and users need. Reddit's owners don't seem to have considered how much work it's going to be to provide said features "in-house."
You use terminal because you know what you are doing.
I use terminal because I want to feel like a hacker in a 90's movie.
We are not the same.
I use Brave and I actually really like it, but I don't recommend it to other people because the crypto shit is frankly kind of embarrassing. It takes a fundamentally good piece of software and makes it feel scammy. I wish they would figure out a better business model, but it's not like I have any ideas.
I'm comfortable just turning all of it off in the settings, but I don't feel comfortable recommending it to people who are less technical than I am because I can already tell they'll be like "You said this was supposed to be more secure why is it trying to sell me crypto"
EDIT: Still, though, ultimately whenever I have to use anyone's "regular" device without adblocking and everything I'm shocked at how annoying the internet is, so Brave is doing its job haha.
