@vlemmy.netPath of least resistance. Chemistry was easy to me and eventually graduate school was posed as just the next thing for me to do. So I did it. And kept doing it because it took more energy to stop than to continue. And then finished and found a job in something very close to my PhD.
I happen to like the work still so it hasn't been negative. And I have time for other things too these days.
Too much data collection for my tastes. That and Facebook have shown. That they don't know how to maintain a healthy and engaging community. It would just become another doom scroll rather than anything interesting. But I'll watch what happens.
Damn that is such a stupid way of doing things too. Eventually user goodwill depletes and you're left with a significant investment in products that don't even generate profit or good.
Just couldn't trust them anymore. Stuff like that always turns into a slippery slope. Besides the fediverse feels like the old internet with web rings. But better. It's nostalgic in a good way.
