I know! I looked ot up after reading your post. Dressing is just the word everyone uses in TX and Louisiana.
That's what I remember learning while in college. Someone had done a study showing that those who wrote out notes were able to recall information better than those who typed their notes.
Free software like TaxHawk and FreetaxUSA popped up once TurboTax and HR Block started charging people. I get your point, but it doesn't carry as much weight with the fre, easy software that's out there.
Why not use free software like TaxHawk? It's been around for a while. At least since HR Block and TurboTax started charging people a few years ago.
It's a regional thing. This is the first I've ever heard Stove Top referred to as stuffing rather than dressing (although it would be blasphemous to serve at thanksgiving).
I've never known dressing to be cooked outside the bird. You cook dressing by putting as much in the bird as will fit and then let the rest cook around the bird in the juices in the roaster.
Maybe it's a north vs south thing. I've always seen it referred to as dressing exclusively on menus as well
You can download forms from the IRS website or use free software like TaxHawk. Many people prefer to use similar software that you have to pay for or pay an accountant to do their taxes for them.
Not to mention the fact that many people don't know what FOSS means, given that it's not used widely outside programmer circles and nobody ever defines the term.
I'm still hoping we get more of the general population on lemmy to help it grow, rather than only be filled with programmers.
