Thought this would be a joke about how the titles of AITA posts that sound innocent are typically the ones where OP is the asshole. Like "Can I give someone my old headphones?" Yes, obviously. "Wrapped as a gift," um, that feels a little insensitive. Probably just give them unwrapped and don't say it's part of the gift.
Yes, he'd be an asshole for giving her them as a birthday present, regardless of the fact that he got her other presents as well. Just ask her if she wants them after he gets his new ones.
This is actually what the consensus was in that post, but the 4channer was blinded by his own assumption of “men bAD, gIRls gOoD” rhetoric
Lmao I've actually done just that before, swapping the genders of a previous post, and people do say the complete opposite even though it's the same situations.
It's also not even just the genders. Copy/paste the text, wait a few days, and then when you make the post you can also 'prime' the situation by having a few immediate posts leaning one way or the other.
i think femoid might mean a feminist who goes overboard and instead of equality, believes that women should have more rights than men
No, it's a term to dehumanize women they don't agree with. Don't be stupid and explain how there are good people on the incel side.
oh ok. thats why i said "i think it might mean etc" and not "it means etc" but thanks for explaining anyway.
also how was that explaining there are good people on the incel side? what does that even mean?
Sorry I was a bit aggressive. I was mocking Trump's 'very fine people on both sides' because it felt like an attempt to say there is a justified way to use that term. But they use it just as a general insult for women.
I’m pretty sure most stories are made up too. They just seem so well written with no grammatical errors or anything.
Wasn't there some trend of people wanting to make self-driving cars take into account ethics in their decision making in emergencies, by having some website where people could pretty much solve trolley problems, with just a conductor in the trolley to also take into account some years ago? I'm imagining them scraping that subbredit for answers to questions like "AITA for having run over 2 orphan children in order to save 6 old ladies?"
Thank christ i left reddit for lemmy, this place is so muchnicer and better for my mental health.
I miss it every day, even tempted to go back. Niche hobbies, local communities, not so niche hobbies...
Old Reddit + adblock + visiting a specific subreddit is hardly soul destroying
I wouldn't browse my old Reddit feed, I would visit a few subs that don't have representation here. All hobbies and interests.
This is remarkably accurate actually, AITA is a dumpster fire. And most of the posts are a work of fiction, I suspect.
Genderswap reposts were common and generally got a little traction before being reported and deleted, so it's plausible that it's a real story
Not that I rank AITA as a font of true drama
I'm not saying it's impossible or even that unlikely that this greentext is true but it's equally true that this person could have fabricated this story to push a narrative about reddit on 4chan for some meager amount of acknowledgement and renown.
Yeah that subreddit in particular went to shit when the news sites started using the posts to generate content.
I used to love that sub. Then it started to be about legal responsibilities instead of morality... From there it really turned into a dumpster fire
The only time I've ever been banned on a forum because although I said the woman had the right to do what she did and the guy was clearly in the wrong, she needlessly escalated when empathy would've led to a better result for everyone
No explanation, just a temp ban. For advocating empathy and third path conflict resolution
The funniest posts are when commenters get angry OP disagrees with them or makes their own decisions. It's like they think seeking advice creates a binding contract to follow that advice if it gets agreed with enough.
If you follow advice that you don't agree with, you are an idiot, even if the advice is actually good. And disagreeing or arguing when you don't agree is a good way to resolve it if you don't see why someone would suggest that.
People should only go to that sub for entertainment. Or if you bring a real problem there, use it as a way to get a variety of different perspectives while keeping in mind some commenters might be literal teenagers (or even younger) with no life experience and half of the replies will be either projecting their own shit onto your situation, won't understand what you wrote, or want to play Sherlock Holmes but their version relies on assumptions they pull out of their ass instead of genius level observational skills, logic, and most of all, the favour of sir Arthur Conan Doyle who can write him as smart or as dumb as his plot about a genius detective needs him to be. Oh, and assholes, the real assholes are in the comments.
And if you scroll down to the bottom of the thread, you get to see some really interesting world views. Or sometimes the rational ones when one of the more popular biases gets triggered.
Sometimes you got people picking up and saying "there needs to be something else to this story".
This is actually a real post but I cannot find the genderswapped version. Presumably because the duplicate nature was identified and OOP was banned.
I does have a certain "and then the whole bus clapped" energy to it.
Good thing they left reddit and went to 4chan where they could get away from ultra thirsty guys acting all kinds of crazy over women.
It may or may not be. I can't speak to that post, but I've seen others pull the same bit with other posts (wait a week or two and repost with a gender swap, then point to the radical difference in response) and usually the gender swapped version gets deleted and the poster banned when it comes out.
Yeah always had a good chuckle at the people that would try to point out the echo chamber hypocrisy in a subreddit and be upvoted but yelled at so hard then banned.
Same story every time.
Fake, but even if it was true, the problem would have probably been the age change and not the gender change. Teenage relationships and adult relationships have different rules…
Yeah, I have to assume 18 year old women are on average way, way, way poorer than 40 year old men. That’s true regardless of the gender, 40 tends to be a pretty high spot in personal capital.
My eyes rolled so hard on this one lol. An 18 year old woman has 40 year old losers waiting in line to buy them shit. Free drinks in the bar, free vacation, free meals, free shopping trips. 10k a month for "feet pics" on only fans 🤮.
Experiencing your "reality" that you or some insecure manosphere shitheel just made up to justify hating women, which you wouldn't know is false because you've never in your miserable life actually talked to a woman who was comfortable sharing those intimate details of her personal life with you? No, no I'm not.
Those are really weird incel beliefs.
But, for levity, please explain what is wrong with this:
10k a month for "feet pics" on only fans
It's weird that you refuse to actively reject reality. Good npc energy yum. Did you notice that only fans made more than the salary of the combined NBA?
What is wrong with making money on OnlyFans? What is wrong with making money in the NBA? I am now more confused.
I didn't say anything was wrong with it. People just seem to think there isn't any money in being an 18 year old woman they are all broke lol.
It depends entirely on the maturity of the parties involved, it's not really an "older/younger" thing.
But generally, the less mature you are, the more a relationship is selfish, i.e. you want to be in a relationship for your personal advantage, i.e. "i get sex when I have a girlfriend". The more mature you get, the more relationships go into the direction of "I want to make the other person happy". You still get your sex or whatever other advantage of course, but it's much more fulfilling if you can actually give the other person what they need, and temporarily losing your personal benefit of the relationship doesn't cause immediate breakups.
And also gay.
Lemmy dumping on Reddit via a 4chan greentext
I’m so proud of this community.
I recently read one where the wife was on her laptop and ignoring her husband when he asked her to look at something. So he flicked a lighter in her face, and then she slapped him in his face.
90% of the comments said that she was completely justified in hitting this guy in the face and that she should divorce him.
Anyone saying that you can't just hit people in the face was down voted to hell.
AmITheAsshole is 99% rage bait and fan fiction. "Am I the Asshole for letting my wife only sleep with 8 different guys, while cucking myself and paying everything for her? I'm totally unsure if I'm, in this Ludacris Situation in which I'm clearly being abused, being unreasonable.... PLS BE NICE, GIVE ME ATTENTION! PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Hot take: AITA (and even moreso those "Reddit Stories" channels on TikTok and YouTube) is just The Jerry Springer Show for Gen Z.
This guy is full of shit, communities on plebbit start with p/
He's talking about reddit
I do think the age changes it. If it's an 18 year old guy asking about his girlfriend, I also would be like, "hey, that may be a bit much. Old ones are fine." cause they're young. The expectations are lower. If it's an adult woman asking this for her husband, I would say to not give it on their birthday. "Hey, here's my old pair. Happy birthday" may be a bit flippant, but saying, "Hey, I got a new pair, want my old one?" doesn't seem like a bad deal.
Also, we didn't see the post. Maybe the other gifts were also bad. Not saying that AITA isn't a dumpster fire. But he changed the factors and didn't give us all the information.
Edit: I just saw the post. He bought her airpods a few years ago and, with how he's talking, it sounds like he got his around the same time. His wife's are glitching and just generally failing, but his used ones are fine. He says she takes care of them as with the rest of her things. He has the option to get free, new pair. Yeah, that is kind of dickish. "Here's my old headphones that could very well be on their way out as well and have been worn for x years. Please enjoy while I get my brand new set that I've openly told you I don't need. Happy birthday."
If this wasn't her birthday, fine. But on the day? That kind of fucked imo
I guess it would be nice to have people think equally of men and women, but I don’t think the better way to do it is to create fake stories on 4chan
The story is absolutely fake, however...
It's satirical. It's basically making fun of something that does occur on the subreddit. There is very much a double standard going on over there, and this story is a satire of that.
Someone up there ^ found the original post but not the gender swapped version. But it's still a made up dumb story.
People noticed when the same story was reposted with different characters. The reposts got deleted
Are you, like, buying a new spoon every time you want to eat? Are you unfamiliar with the concept of cleaning?
In their defense, properly cleaning headphones is kinda hard, especially wireless earbuds.
Source : Used to work at an electronics repair shop that cleaned stuff, and even clean 'looking' (aka externally clean) headphones can have some disgusting junk on the inside.
But the outside part covers the inside and is the only part that goes inside. The inside is still inside while being inside your ear protecting the inside of your ear from the inside of the earbud.
If you look at pretty much all earphones and earbuds, you'll see they have a screen mesh where the sound comes out. You can remove this mesh (depending on the device, it might take some effort), and very often you'll find an accumulation of earwax. I had a pair of Galaxy Buds+ that I needed to clean when I noticed the sound was unusually low.
Exactly! 'My headphones are so quiet now, could the speaker be dying?' is something we got all the time. Most of the time when people clean their headphones, all the do is take a wipe or a brush (if you're lucky alcohol) and clean the outside of the mesh. Half the time all they're doing is pushing earwax through the mesh so you get a nice little wax puck when you open them up.
It's gross, but it did feel good to be able to tell people they didn't need new headphones, we just cleaned them for $15.
