The MTA board gave its final sign-off for the program to toll motorists who drive south of 60th Street, realizing a dream transit advocates have pursued for more than 50 years.
The answer is always the same: Double the price of gasoline for non public transport and half the ticket cost for public transport.
If most highways can be free (as in tax funded) then transit should certainly be free.
There's already "congestion pricing", its paid for in time.
All this does is allow the weathy easier access.. More cycle ways that take away car parking and better, very cheap PT are actual solutions.
Driving in the city has an impact on city residents, and wasting people's time doesn't compensate those residents for that impact. The charge will help to fund the other measures that you mention.
The fact that it's become so normalised for drivers to impose themselves on city dwellers for free is what's crazy.
I'm happy about this because I can still afford to drive there, and this means there will be fewer cars so driving will be nicer and parking will be more available.
