“I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest – but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers is not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided, will be normal.”
I think it needs to be said that (and I cannot speak for the man himself) I believe what the intent of this statement was that this - and much worse - is what is actually happening to so many Palestinian children right now and to demonstrate what our complicity looks like. Surely many Palestinians have suffered similar (and worse) ends, but they don't get national media attention like a white active duty soldier does with an act like this.

Even while successfully attracting media attention, the subjacent cause is actively downplayed, or completely silenced in some cases. You can never get the bourgeois media to accurately present reality.
