Mali drops French from official to working language, 13 local languages get official status

French has been removed as an official language in mali following the outcome of a constitutional referendum which took place on June 18.
Practical matters require French to remain a working language, but no longer will it hold prestige as an official means of communication. Another win for the continued decolonization efforts in the imperial periphery.
