You can if you keep it up. I regularly switch between several physical layouts, and it's not a problem if the keymap is the same.
I can still use my laptop keyboard, but it's annoying without the keymap efficiencies. But I do have Colemak DH installed as a layout. I haven't really kept up with qwerty, but I can do it if needed (I'm using it on my phone).
My solution was to switch to smaller, wireless boards that sit on a "bridge" over my laptop keyboard.

Looks great! I wish there was a little more customization available: I use Colemak DH, and I would prefer icons instead of full "backspace" on a 1u.

This logic assumes logical thinking. While I think you're right -- there's some factor at play that has not been publicized -- this could still be nothing more than an ego trip.
I feel the same way. Very much appreciate everything you've done (and I hope Jane is doing better -- unrelated I know, but she's fantastic, too)
My only hesitation is that I'd heard that most of the available replacements have become havens of ... misinformation.
