A raspberry pi station that's running BirdNET Pi. I made a write-up about the whole project.
I’ve had a same issue. I’ve seen another user with the same display name and it was really confusing at first. I thought it was a glitch. But the actual username is different.
I posted this last week in a different community but I built this 3D-printed digital counter that tallies the bird chirps heard in my backyard. It’s powered by a Wemos D1 Mini microcontroller.
I’ve been thing a lot about this too. Is it a good idea to set up my own single-user instance of Lemmy and post with that to this community? Would that mean if I make a post or comment and include media that it’s hosted on my server?
I ask because I wonder if theoretically I made a popular post here via my instance if it causes a lot of server load for people to see it. Trying to wrap my head around all of it.
Another thought I had is if I decided to create a Mastodon instance and use that to post here as well what the impacts of that would be?
I'm super excited about this space and what it will mean for computing paradigms going forward. I know there is a lot of saltiness at the price, but it's not a shocker. I'm a tech early adopter and will likely want to jump on this when it comes out next year, more so out of curiosity than anything else.
The digital avatar they previewed in the keynote gave me slightly uncanny vibes but I imagine it will improve with time/before release.
Walking and just being among trees and nature is definitely a hobby! The more you do it the more you become familiar with what is around you. Your eyes open and you begin to notice and appreciate the diversity of all kinds of wildlife. Check out the Seek app or Merlin to learn more about what you're seeing. Love both of those apps!
I'm a bird watcher. I go birding every week. I built many sub-hobbies around it: photography, birdsong recording, blogging, cross stitching, and more. I find that when I'm out in nature, I can truly disconnect from my regular life stress and just be present in the moment.
I took this further by training and becoming a Master Naturalist though my local region's chapter. This opened the door to a great community, learning, and volunteer work.
