I have an ebike that comes with a rear light affixed permanently to the rear of the frame. I think it would be more trouble than it's worth for a thief to steal, since it's wired to the electronic components and the connector is not situated in an obvious spot.
But I still get nervous about leaving the bike unattended for too long, lest someone get any ideas. Heck, someone actually broke into my storage locker a couple of weeks ago and just broke the affixed front light off my bike, not to steal it but just to be a dick. (They'd probably have taken the bike itself if I'd left the battery on it.) So now I use an old strap-mounted front light.
All this to say, I think the advantages of strap/clip-mounted light outweigh the advantages of an affixed one. But YMMV.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
(I'm partly kidding -- there are a ton of communities I'd like to see carry over from Reddit to here, but I don't bother because I don't have bandwidth to be a mod. So I get it. But if you have time, feel free to make the communities yourself!)
I'm actually surprised this made it to third reading already! If you look at the city's most recent list of major development projects, there are more than a few projects that have been languishing for years since their second reading. That's actually why I posted this -- I fully expected third reading for this project to take much longer than one year.
They aren't "second-guessing the engineer." Again, no parking analysis has been completed. They're asking questions that are appropriate to ask.
Most ebikes have decently water-resistant controller housings. I'd avoid a serious downpour if possible, but it probably wouldn't be the end of the world if you get caught in one, and light rain is no problem at all.
I've had a Rad Power Bikes Radrunner Plus for about 2.5 years now. It's not much to look at, but it's a hell of a grocery hauler now -- front basket, pannier adapters on each side, and modular options on the back (easy switching between large rear basket, rear seat, and Topeak trunk bag). I've upgraded to full hydraulic brakes too, given that I live near some annoyingly steep hills. It gets the job done!
If Reddit were to back down from their API gamesmanship, I'd probably stick with Infinity, as it's a great app and easily my favorite 3P Reddit app.
I don't expect Reddit will back down, so in all likelihood I will miss both this service and this app. Damn shame.
I’m not sure what the skytrain being there in a literal sense makes as a difference
I'm only saying that proximity to the SkyTrain would seem to this layperson to reduce the need for so many spots relative to the number of units planned for the development (1612 spots for 1466 units, along with 1000+ more for businesses). Councillors are asking the same question, so I don't think it's out of bounds to speculate that this much parking may be a bit excessive.
But what do your engineering numbers say?
No need to be a jerk. BTW, the article says that a parking analysis for the project has not yet been completed.
