@lemmy.worldThe goal: Easily see upcoming events from various NYC venues in one place, possibly a Google Calendar.
The problem: Bars and venues all use different sites and apps to manage their event calendars, meaning I have to check EACH one individually. It sucks.
A few venues use Google Calendar, so I've already managed to import those to my own Google Calendar via IFTTT. But the rest use their own website. I've listed all of my desired venues & their calendars below.
My best guess at a solution: Find a way to convert these sites to RSS, then use IFTTT to convert the RSS feeds to Google Calendar entries.
Here are the calendars that I need to convert:
The Skint This one actually has RSS, but it combines multiple events into each RSS entry
And one newsletter:
These venues already use Google Calendar, so I've successfully imported them into my Google Calendar.
Thank you RSS Feeds community!
As someone who believes whole-heartedly in evolution, there's something I've never fully understood:
When animals die, their bones decompose. If they didn't, the woods would be absolutely full of deer skeletons, and our streets and rooftops would be covered in dead birds. This makes sense, right?
So then how do we have so many dinosaur skeletons? Do dinosaur bones not decompose?
Or, conversely, if the answer is "A very small number of dinosaur bones were preserved through unique circumstances" then how were we so lucky to find so many examples from that small number? Isn't that a hell of a needle in the haystack?
And, not quite the same question, but related: Many ancient civilizations have myths about dragons, which are essentially dinosaurs (except for the fire thing). But we didn't discover dinosaur bones until the 1800s. So how is it that we imagined these creatures and then discovered they were real?
Can someone explain this to me? Thank you.
I've used these sites in the past to get around article paywalls, but for weeks now I haven't been able to get past the captcha. I fill it out correctly and it just reloads. Anyone else having this issue? Know a good alternative?
I like going to karaoke bars with my friends, but so many songs have problems:
What are some karaoke songs that don't have these problems? Looking for songs that are

Some gas station owners are falling victim to a sophisticated scam.
I love Signal. But despite my best efforts, I still have friends using WA and iMessage. Managing multiple apps is kinda a pain. Beeper offers a convenient way to combine them into one interface, and it claims to re-encrypt the content. Does anyone know anything about this claim?
From their website:
Messages sent using Beeper to other chat networks are re-encrypted if the other network supports encryption (like Signal, WhatsApp and iMessage).
So..Safe? Or no?
