@beehaw.orgHopefully this serves as a cautionary tale going forward and dissuades other misinformed people about the purpose of regulations. All loss of life is tragic but hopefully it can serve as a warning.
agreed! I want this be something new and to grow with it. I certainly don’t want lemmy to be reddit. I realized in the last month, my experience with reddit has truly degraded over the years. I’ve had better and more meaningful engagement here.
Personally, I love it. I was disgusted by Reddit’s actions after 12 years of using the site daily and made a full hop over to the Fediverse.
I have deeper and more meaningful interactions with people and content. It’s been enjoyable for sure to see a quickly evolving and changing place.
I see a lot of people lamenting how the shutdowns didn’t kill reddit and how the Fediverse won’t ever take over reddit? And I couldn’t care less, in fact I think it’s probably a good thing. I like this more niche engagement and look forward to participating as it continues to grow.
yeah that’s the most tragic part of the story in my mind. I hope it was quick and painless for his sake.
The API issue was a huge nail into the coffin of the user experience at reddit. For sure, mobile site will disappear and then old.reddit.
Everything about this is utterly tone deaf, you can see it in u/spez answer in his AMA about how the company will continue to be profit driven until it’s profitable. Bro, this is not how you talk to your user base. Your actions, policies, and strategic outlook should be toward driving the user experience and your service so that it is profitable. Not degrading all things for grinding down every extra cent at the expense of your entire companies differentiators.
Fuck spez, fuck reddit.
