Yep. Dwarf Fortress is great. Imagine if you had to control each action of every one of your dwarves including picking up and putting down items. That’d slow the game down to an impossible crawl, just like slowly loading cargo one box at a time. I know they’re bringing larger SCU containers to SC eventually and I think that’ll alleviate the problem a bit. I guess my point is; I’m not new to tedium in games or SC.
Yeah this has been what’s pushed me away from SC. Even if the development had been glacial I can understand some of the reasons for that. What I can’t understand is some of the terrible gameplay decisions they’ve made.
They’ve honestly made me hate the word “immersion” because while, yes, being immersed in a game is good and fun what they actually mean is tedious. People joke about walking simulators but man SC takes it to the next level; walking simulator, box grabbing simulator, cargo shifting simulator. Want to be a space pirate? Shoot some ships? HA get ready to manually load those boxes IMMERSION!!
A Logitech headset for my PC and an older MacBook Pro. Everything else I have is a variety of USB standards or Lightning. Oh, and a couple of Raspberry Pi’s but I don’t know that really counts. My best friend also does this a bit; almost all of his tech is new-ish and uses USB-C so he forgets that not everyone has a bunch of USB-C devices.
To add to this there’s a theory amongst creationists that we must be of intelligent design because the eye is so complex and perfect. Not only is this wrong because of the blind spot but another species developed eyes separately and they don’t suffer the same blind spot problem! Notably the nerve channels in octopus eyes allow full coverage.

neighbours haven’t said shit.
Probably too scared.
“FollyDolly’s out screaming again. I’m gonna say something!”
“No, don’t. It’ll be more trouble than what it’s worth.”
“They’re scaring the children!”
“And what if they come back with a knife? What then, Karen?”
“Ok, but I’m writing it in my FollyDolly Scream Journal for evidence.”
If Gabe ever leaves Valve and the powers that be decide to go public I hope it’s done in a way that gives power to the users instead of faceless investment firms. I don’t even know what that would look like but I fear the day that Valve comes under control of an ex-AAA game company CEO or the like.
It’s the same in Australia. Tax incentives given to businesses during the pandemic mixed with a large influx of yank tanks available on the market means that there are heaps of these monster trucks getting around. I honestly don’t know how they cope, the roads and parking around here aren’t designed for such large vehicles and this is out in the countryside; I can’t see them fitting in narrow city streets.
Went and had a look and it’s some of the funniest stuff I’ve seen all day! A few images come close to realism but a lot of them are the sort AI fever dream stuff that you could not make up.
