The problem is more that Stalinist Communism is pretty close to fascisism. We see that all over the former Soviet sphere of influence. Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia and so forth also all have have very strong far right parties.
Also inflation is high in Russia, so to just keep spending constant in real terms they need to increase it by currently by 8.6% right now. So the spending for applied sciences will be more then cut in half in real terms. Oh and inflation is trending upwards, so this might be an understatement.
The EU could also supply Ukraine with weapons, which could destroy Russias entire electricity grid, oil refining capacity, gas network and key pieces of its transport infrastructure. However there is no need to be loud about it, since everybody knows that is true.
Not at all. Sanctions a unanimous decision from all EU members. A number of EU members are pro Israel. In the October ceasefire vote Austria, Croatia, Czechia and Hungary voted against a ceasefire and many more abstained including Germany, Italy and Poland. So very unlikely that anything actually strong is going to come from the EU.
