@Asafum
@lemmy.worldPeople often completely disregard the value of money. (Mostly when it comes to our wages...)
Sure it's not a billion when referring to the old barons, but the purchasing power they held was still equivalent to billionaires of today.
Breakfast cereal has evolved into a "new" market for candy makers... Reese's cereal?? Just brand it as breakfast and people somehow think they're not feeding their kids candy for breakfast... I used to buy that kind of stuff for a dessert snack lol
I have absofuckinglutley no faith whatsoever in our society to do the right thing in this respect. We value ownership waytoofuckingmuch when it comes to businesses, were never going to get past the argument of "I put forward the capital for this business, I am entitled to all of the profits. Who cares that there is no work for you? No work no pay."
I forsee a gigantic increase in homelessness and politicians will use that as an excuse to further cut any social spending as they'll pin all our issues on "communist policies." :(
In our society it's literally stupid NOT to do these things. If you got rich doing it you "won." Fuck the general population, fuck "good" things, fuck literally everything, C.R.E.A.M.
I hate it so much.
It's looking more and more depressing on that front too...
Apparently we're discovering that our type of star system with its long periods of stability and lack of local disruptive bodies is incredibly, incredibly, rare... There are a (literal) astronomical amount of systems out there so there's no way we're the only one with life, but it's really looking like there could only be a "handful" of others out there :/
I saw a post "Lemmy seems to have way more leftists than xyz." So I wouldn't be surprised to find it's political nonsense, people attacking a site they see as "the left."
There would generally be mandatory meetings for workers to attend that would allow for debates on the trajectory of the company. The state would "own" it but the workers would still direct it.
In a very very small way, it is like what Germany does with large corporations. They require a percentage of the board of directors be actual workers so it's not just a bunch of capitalist parasites making decisions that would hurt workers just to boost their own portfolios/profits.
"Then there’s no journalistic accountability when they do get caught with their hand in the cookie jar."
Literally Fox News Entertainment when brought to court over Tucker Carlsons bullshit...
"We're not news we're Entertainment™©®, no reasonable person would believe what Mr.Carlson is saying is true." So they don't need to have any integrity whatsoever...
