Ine Town - The Quiet 'Venice Of Japan' Just Outside Kyoto | LIVE JAPAN travel guide

The boathouses of Ine, found in an area called Kyoto By The Sea in the prefecture's northern region, are an exceptionally popular tourist spot. The houses appear to float on the sea which surrounds them and offer a scene found nowhere else. From wherever it is viewed, atop a hill, from the town, or on a boat, the town exudes a nostalgic air and is ideal for leisurely walks. Here we'll introduce what to do in Ine Kyoto and share what incredible scenery you can find there!

Are There Free Wi-Fis on Train Stations? or Recommend Places With Free Wi-Fi?

I'll be traveling with a big group (family of about 20+) and we might avail a portable wifi device for the group as a whole.

If I plan to do some stuff away from the group, are there any reliable places where they offer free wi-fi so I don't get lost?

What were your favorite little spots that weren't horribly touristy that you hope other people get to see? A couple of mine are:

  • Shimokitazawa - cute shopping district not far from Tokyo
  • Miyajima Island - beautiful island with tame deer, easy mountain hikes, and lovely temples, off the coast of Hiroshima via ferry
  • Kamakura - former capital of Japan with lots of temples, a historic electric railway that still runs antique passenger cars, and surfing at the beach. 1.5 hours south of Tokyo.

First trip in February

We are planning our first trip to Japan in this upcoming february after a long postponing due to covid. Would love some tips from others here! We have dates but no specific ideas while there yet. More specific questions:

Recommended budget per day based on general costs of food and lodging there?

Recommendations for places to go while generally trying to avoid touristy locales?

Train for getting around while there or is there a better option?

How important to study basic Japanese?

Thanks!
